Lady Oak Abroad
The first year of the new millennium has not been kind to Audrey O’Krane. She’s been run over by a bus, her boyfriend dumped her, and her principal just expelled her. The post-9/11 world is so dysfunctional she longs to throw it away and start over. Her wish results in an unexpected adventure.
When her batty Aunt Ellen disappears through a portal in their front yard in Saskatoon, Audrey falls into Migrara, one of many fascinating worlds that exists parallel to our own. Here Audrey discovers that she is a formidable “sidestepper” who can cross the cosmic borders between worlds. This ability and her impulsive nature lead Audrey to accompany an intriguing and attractive mage, Keirt, on a hunt for the Migraran king’s assassin who could be anywhere in the universe.
But their quest is complicated by the Queen of Migrara. Paranoid about potential invasions from other worlds, the Queen uses the powerful Eleouss Stone to destroy them by forcing incompatible worlds to merge together. The Eleouss Stone also has the power to enhance Migrara by merging it with a stronger world. Even with the stone, however, the Queen has only limited access to these worlds. When she learns of Audrey’s sidestepping feats, she plans to exploit Audrey’s skill…especially because she has chosen Earth as the ideal world with which to fuse Migrara.
To get to Audrey, the Queen kidnaps Aunt Ellen. With the Queen’s royal squad of Cauldra Cats on their tails, Audrey and Keirt search for the Alphan of Touaue who created the Eleouss Stone, hoping he can stop the Queen. Audrey soon discovers she must use her own strength to challenge the misguided ruler and save her friends, her family and countless worlds.
Lady Oak Abroad will appeal to both teenage and adult readers of contemporary fantasy. Those who are new to the genre will be drawn in by a story with plenty of action and comedy, a touch of romance, and a compelling cast of characters, especially the irrepressible Audrey.
